Have you always fancied having a crack at learning the drums? Well why not give it a try? It’s actually terrific fun and can be a good sort of stress relief. It can also be great for gaining your own back on your mom and dad or your neighbours!
In order to get started, you are going to have to pick your initial drum set. As soon as we all dream of drumming, we visualise the outstanding rock bands, with their drummers surrounded by all sizes of drums and cymbals, thrashing out loud unforgettable rhythms. The simple fact is that you do not really require that many drums to get started, in truth a beginner drum set will only come with four or perhaps 5 key drums.
A basic set of adult drums will generally include the following pieces. The largest item is going to be the bass drum. You should also get a more compact snare drum, a couple of tom-toms, a rack tom and a floor tom. As well as the drums themselves, a set will generally also include hi-hat and crash cymbals.
As a newbie, you truly do not have to have any more kit than that to get started out. Only after you have perfected the basics of drumming should you start to think about purchasing extra drums.
Don’t forget, when you watch the rock bands we spoke about at the beginning, their drummers are experts who have practised for many years to achieve the necessary expertise required for playing larger sets.
Therefore keep your first drum set to the minimum. You don’t need to commit a lot of money on your first kit, cheap drum sets are going to be more than adequate to get you started out. And think about it this way, what if you buy your drums and find out that you are not truly a natural after all and give up after a couple of days. When you purchase a cheap set you are not risking losing your cash on something that could just sit around gathering dust!
So do not worry about buying a named manufacturer to begin with, start out simple and should you really get into your drumming, trade your first set in and upgrade them to a named brand such as Ludwig.
And remember, do not purchase a set that comes with drums and cymbals of all shapes and sizes. Playing the drums is not as straightforward as it may look to the untrained eye. Mastering the drums takes hours and hours of practice and fantastic natural coordination and rhythm. So begin practising straightforward beats using only two or three drums, and after that add components as you go along.
So if you do make a decision to invest your cash, you don’t have to get the best drum set in the shop, a low cost set is fine for any beginner!
